May 5, 2024 – There is a lot of disagreement about Intel’s new way of calling its desktop processors².
A Risky Move
Intel just recently made the biggest change to its name in 15 years². The company is getting rid of the “i” and generational language in front of the Intel Core brand².
The New Way of Naming Things
The ‘i’ will no longer be used in any Intel Core logo under the new system. In this case, Intel Core 7-1355U² would be used instead of Intel Core i7-1355U. The processor number already has the generational number in it.
The Talk Back
But people don’t like this new way of calling things. Some people say that the new names are hard to understand and don’t have the same level of comfort as the old names².
What This Means for Customers
Not only businesses but also customers are unhappy with the new names. A lot of people think that the new names make it harder to tell the difference between processor types.
Intel’s Answer
Intel hasn’t said anything about the complaints yet. But the company says the new names are part of an effort to cut down on the number of times the same hardware is named².
Bottom Line
Intel’s plan to make its chip names shorter is a good one, but the way it has been carried out leaves a lot to be desired². After the reaction, it’s still not clear if Intel will stick with the new names or go back to the old ones.
