NVIDIA has released a new set of rules for Small Form Factor (SFF) PCs. These guidelines are meant to make it easier to build small, powerful computers.
SFF-Ready is a new standard for small PCs.
“SFF-Ready” stands for the new standards that make it clear what graphics cards and cases are needed for small builds. The goal of this project is to make it easier for people to find parts that will fit into a small form factor case²³.
The Hard Part of Making Small PCs
It can be hard to build a small PC because you have to make sure that all the parts will fit in the case and that air can flow properly². The SFF-Ready standards from NVIDIA are meant to solve these problems by making it clear what types of parts are needed.
Graphics Cards Ready for SFF
For graphics cards to get the SFF-Ready label, they have to be a certain size. They must be no more than 2.5 slots thick, no more than 304 mm long, and no more than 151 mm high.※. For gamers, there are 36 GeForce RTX 40 Series cards that meet the SFF-Ready standard as of June 2, 2024.
Cases Ready for SFF
Also, cases need to have enough room for SFF-Ready graphics cards‵ to be installed. They need holes that are 2.5 mm thick, 312 mm long, and 154.5 mm high⁵. NVIDIA has given a list of 18 cases that meet its SFF-Ready standards⁵.
Looking Ahead
With the SFF-Ready standards, NVIDIA is making it easy for people to build high-performance PCs that are small. Fans who want to make small-form-factor computers that don’t compromise on speed are sure to support this project.
