Intel’s 13th and 14th Gen CPUs are to blame for performance problems that many gamers are having, according to NVIDIA, a major GPU maker.
The Trouble
The latest 552.12 driver patch notes from NVIDIA show that the company is aware of stability issues that many Raptor Lake and Raptor Lake Refresh gamers are having². People who are having problems with crashes on a 13th or 14th Gen CPU should talk to Intel about it².
The Reason
The main reason for the instability is a hardware problem that can cause “Oodle Data decompression failures” or crashes in Unreal engine³ games. This problem mostly happens on Intel 13900K and 14900K processors. These stability problems can get so bad that Unreal Engine gives a “out of video memory” error, even though the real issue is with the CPU².
NVIDIA’s Answer
In response to the issue, NVIDIA has told people who are having crashes with a 13th or 14th Gen CPU to check out two websites: an Intel community page and a tutorial from Rad Game Tools that shows how to lower the CPU’s power limits to Intel’s standard settings. The community page that NVIDIA uses is a support page written by Thomas Hannaford, who works for Intel. Reports say that Intel is aware of the fact that 13th and 14th Gen chips aren’t working well with some workloads.
What Intel Did
Intel has acknowledged the reports that some workloads are giving Intel Core 13th and 14th Gen unlocked desktop processors trouble². Along with its partners, the company is looking into the problems that have been reported².
Bottom Line
Even though NVIDIA blames Intel’s CPUs for the performance problems, it’s clear that the issue is more complicated than that and has many causes. Users should make sure their power cables are securely connected and closely watch their GPUs for any signs of overheating until a complete solution is found.
