Microsoft has released Recall, a new AI-powered tool for its Copilot+ PCs. Users can look for and get back information about what they’ve done on their PC in the past with this tool.
How Does Recall Work?
There are several small language models that run together on the PC that are used by Recall. Every few seconds, it takes a picture of your current screen. The pictures are locked up and saved on the hard drive of your PC. Users can use search or a timeline bar to find the content they have seen on their PC in Recall. This lets them scroll through their snapshots.
Concerns About Privacy
Microsoft says that the Recall index stays local and private on the device because it is protected in a way that is related to a specific user’s account. creenshots taken with Recall are only related to a single user record. Recall does not share them with other users, let Microsoft see them, or use them to target ads. Microsoft says that the person whose name was used to sign in to the device is the only one who can see screenshots.
Control by Users
People can pause, stop, or remove recorded content, and they can also choose which apps or websites are not recorded. Recall won’t record private web browsing sessions in Microsoft Edge or information that is protected by DRM. It won’t actively hide private information like passwords and account numbers that show up on the screen, though.
Bottom Line
The release of the Recall feature is a major turning point in the history of personal computers. Recall is going to change the way people use apps by giving them better speed and new features.
