Microsoft has shocked everyone by revealing how much longer security fixes for Windows 10 cost. When Microsoft stops supporting Windows 10 in October 2025, users who want to keep getting important security fixes will have to pay a lot of money.
The Timer for Uncertainty
People who use Windows 10 will no longer get updates after October 2025 unless they pay for more than one. Updates for security are very important because they protect users from flaws found in the operating system. Microsoft currently puts out a security fix for Windows 10 every month. After the end-of-support date, they will no longer do that.
The Program for Extra Help
Microsoft has an extended help scheme for businesses that aren’t ready to upgrade all of their employees’ computers to Windows 11. Businesses can pay for three more years of security fixes for Windows 10 through this scheme. But ease of use comes with a price.
The Price
For the first year, it costs at least $61 per gadget. The price will double every year for three years, though. That means each device will cost $122 for the second year and a whopping $244 for the third.Particularly for businesses with a lot of gadgets, a lot of money is required.
Subscriptions for one person
Users will be able to sign up for the extra help service on their own for the first time ever. Prices for individual contracts, on the other hand, will be made public later this year. If you use Windows 10, you might want to move to Windows 11 before October 2025 to escape being less safe or having to pay for security patches.
The Smart Step
The extended support scheme makes sure that security stays in place, but it’s clear that Microsoft wants people to use Windows 11. The latest OS is still fully supported and gets free patches for protection. Users have less and less time to decide whether to pay up or update.
