Intel’s new Xe-2 design, which makes graphics speed much better, was just released. The Xe-2 GPU, which replaces the Xe “Alchemist” GPUs, offers big speed boosts, new features, and better power economy for both built-in and separate graphics solutions³.

Lunar Lake Xe-2 GPU: Speed and Power

The new Xe-2 integrated GPU (iGPU) has up to 1.5 times faster graphics than Meteor Lake’s Arc Graphics and up to 67 TOPS of AI performance³. The Xe-2 GPU design has 8 Xe-cores and 8 ray-tracing units, which will make games run faster, use less power, and be compatible with them.

Naming and setting up have been made easier

Intel has also made it easier to understand the names of its GPU architecture. Instead of the Xe-LP, Xe-HP, and Xe-HPG suffixes that were used with the previous generation’s Xe architecture², the new architecture will just be called Xe-2.

The Xe-2 GPUs in Lunar Lake and Battlemage

Intel’s Xe-2 design will be used in both the Lunar Lake processors and the soon-to-be-released Battlemage discrete game GPUs². Even though the design may be the same, Lunar Lake’s transistors use less power, while Battlemage’s will be faster to get the best performance².

More features and the power to grow

The Xe-2 GPU design has Intel’s second-generation Xe core, bigger XMX engines that can handle more types of data, better vector engines, bigger ray tracing units, and deeper caches². As a result of being flexible, the design is easy to change to fit more or fewer units².

Bottom Line

Intel’s Xe-2 design will change the way both integrated and separate GPUs work. The architecture’s ability to scale and use less power, along with the big speed boosts, make Xe-2 an exciting new development in graphics processing²²³.
