As a major change in the tech service business, iFixit has stated that it is ending its relationship with Samsung.
The Partnership’s Journey
There are two years ago when iFixit released the Samsung Repair Hub with the goal of making an environment that is easy to fix. The goal was to keep Galaxy devices working and give tools and parts to local private service shops that could do the work.
The Problems That Were Solved
Even though iFixit tried hard, they ran into many problems that made them doubt Samsung’s dedication to making repairs easier². It was hard for them to get parts to local service shops at prices and amounts that made sense for their business². People often bought new gadgets instead of fixing old ones because parts were so expensive.
The End of the Partnership
It breaks our hearts to say that iFixit is ending its relationship with Samsung². iFixit will no longer be Samsung’s official third-party parts and tools distributor² as of June 2024. They are no longer going to work directly with Samsung to make new manuals².
What’s Next for iFixit
Even though the relationship is over, iFixit will still sell parts and service tools for Samsung devices². When OEM parts are available, they will get them and make it clear whether the parts are original or aftermarket². iFixit is still dedicated to its goal of encouraging repairability and will keep spreading the word about third-party repair².
This event shows how hard it is for small repair shops to stay in business when some companies have monopolies and strict rules about how they do business². Stay tuned for more news about this important development†.
