The popular cloud storage service Google Drive has finally added a dark mode to its web version²²³. This is a big change. This long-awaited tool should make watching more comfortable for users, especially those who like their screens darker²²³.
On April 16, 2024, the dark mode option was made public. The dark mode for Google Drive was released to all users around the world on the same day², which is different from how many of Google’s features are released over time. This covers people who have their own Google accounts, people who buy Google Workspace, and people who subscribe to Workspace Individual.
Selecting the gear button in the upper right corner of Google Drive and selecting “Settings”² will turn on the dark mode. In the “Appearance” sub-menu, users can choose between “Light,” “Dark,” and “Device default.” Users can choose between light and dark modes by hand, or they can use “Device default” to change the mode based on their system settings² if they’d rather.
A dark setting has been added to Google Drive, which is a good change for many users. The feature changes the background from white to black and the words from black to white. The toolbar and search bar are a slightly gray color to make them stand out from the papers and files that are stored inside of Drive².
One more thing: Google Drive now has a dark mode, but Docs, Slides, and Sheets do not. Users will automatically switch to light mode if they start any papers. The addition of dark mode to Google Drive, on the other hand, could make it possible for other Google services to follow suit.
In conclusion, adding dark mode to Google Drive is a big step toward making the user experience better. In the coming days and weeks, it will be interesting to see how this change affects Google’s other services.
