The well-known iPhones and MacBooks are no longer the only things that Apple makes. The tech giant has moved on to a new project: AI-powered home robots. It had to give up its electric car project. Several news sources say that Apple is just starting to work on two interesting items that could change the way we use our living areas.
The robot helpers
Mobile computer Assistant: Picture a nice computer that follows you around your house and helps you with jobs and gives you information. AI would be built into this mobile robot, which would let it change based on your wants and tastes. This little helper could become an important part of your daily life, whether it’s getting things for you, answering your questions, or even playing your favorite music.
Advanced Tablet PC: Apple is also looking into a tablet PC with a twist. Instead of a flat screen, this gadget has a moving screen that is driven by robots. Imagine a surface that changes where it is based on how you move it. It could be a digital helper that shows you recipes while you cook, the latest weather reports in real time, or even a blank canvas for your own art.
The People Who Made the Plan Work
John Giannandrea, who is Apple’s senior vice president of machine learning and AI strategy, is said to be in charge of the company’s robots work. Giannandrea used to work for Google and has a lot of experience with researching and developing AI. Matt Costello and Brian Lynch, two Apple execs in the hardware group, are also in charge of the robots’ creation and how they work.
The State of the Market
Apple would be the first company to make a home robot, but other companies have already tried their hands at it. Amazon’s Astro robot, which came out in 2021, goes around homes and helps with chores. Samsung’s Ballie, which should be available in 2024, is a smart home device that looks like a bowling ball and has robot features. Now, Apple wants to find its own place in this space that is always changing.
Siri’s New Conversational Features
It just so happens that Apple researchers just put out a study describing ReALM (Reference Resolution As Language Modeling). This model could improve Siri’s ability to have conversations, making them more natural and aware of the situation. It’s clear that Apple is getting ready to be a big name in AI and robotics, even if their home robots never come to life.
What’s to Come
As WWDC (Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference) gets closer in June, we can’t wait for any real news to come out. Will Apple show off the robots it has made? Time will tell. One thing is for sure: Apple’s move toward home robots that are driven by AI could change the way we use technology.
