As reports about AMD’s next-generation RDNA 4 “Radeon RX 8000” GPUs spread, the gaming world is buzzing with excitement. Leaks and rumors point to interesting changes coming to graphics cards, but details are still hard to come by. Let’s look at what we already know.
The Secret Hints
Where did these reports come from? Someone named @All_The_Watts wrote a mysterious message on the social network X. Let’s be careful as we look into the interesting clues that this unknown leaker has dropped.
Navi 48: The Best RDNA 4 Die
The AMD Navi 48 GPU is the first one. It’s said to be the best RDNA 4 GPU die. It’s slower than the Navi 31 die used in the Radeon RX 7900 XTX, but it should work better than the Radeon RX 7900 GRE’s smaller Navi 31 GPU die. From this spot, the Navi 48’s speed should be about the same as that of the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER and the Radeon RX 7900 XT.
Navi 44: A Challenger in the Middle Level
The Navi 44 GPU is the second chip in the line-up. The Radeon RX 7800 and RX 7700 series use the Navi 32 (Wheatnas) GPU, which is slower. The Radeon RX 7600 series, on the other hand, uses the Hotpink Bonefish GPU, which is faster. You can expect speed that is about the same as the RX 7700 XT and GeForce RTX 4060 Ti.
A Different Plan for RDNA 4
RDNA 4 is different from other GPU designs in how it works. AMD doesn’t seem to be focused on chips in the middle of the price range, rather than making chips at all price points. This plan is similar to what we saw with the RDNA 1 GPU design (Navi 10/NNavi 11/12). The goal is to look again at speed and value pricing in the general market before going up against NVIDIA in the high-end market.
The countdown starts
While we wait for official news, one thing is certain: AMD’s RDNA 4 GPUs will change the way games are played. We don’t know if they’ll be better than their predecessors or come up with new features that surprise us. Stay tuned for more news!
