The new AMD Navi 48 graphics card is getting a lot of attention, but it won’t be able to compete with the top-of-the-line GPUs. Let’s look at what we know about this interesting mid-range product.
It was a quiet confirmation.
In a quiet move, AMD revealed that the RDNA 4-based Navi 48 GPU is being made. Navi 48 has been added to AMD’s ROCm Validation Suite, which suggests that the first GPU with the RDNA 4 design is on the way. We don’t know many details yet, but we do know that it will probably have 32 WGP (Work Group Processors).
Not a Killer Titan
Navi 48 won’t be going up against Nvidia’s GB202 in a full-on power battle like its high-end rivals. AMD no longer seems to be focusing on going up against Nvidia’s top-of-the-line GPUs. They are instead going straight for the mid-range market.
What’s the Labs Cooking?
AMD’s software experts are working hard on Navi 48. There are already the first changes for the card, which include setup files and build targets. The full features of the Navi 48, on the other hand, are still a secret. We do know that it will be part of the new Radeon 8000 line, but other than that, not much is known.
Navi 44: The Peer
AMD is also working on Navi 44, which is another RDNA 4-based GPU. The Navi 48 is likely to be the more high-end of the two, but both the Navi 44 and the Navi 48 are likely to be in the middle price range. It looks like AMD is happy with providing good speed and isn’t trying to win the top spot.
Release Date Not Certain
When does RDNA 4 technology go on sale for real? The ROCm patch doesn’t say when the game will be out. But as time goes on, players are getting more and more excited about the Radeon 8000 line. The mid-range market is about to get interesting, whether you’re interested in the Navi 48 or its sister.
