AMD just recently announced the Ryzen 7 8700F and Ryzen 5 8400F, two Zen 4 processors that will only be sold in China12. We now have the first scores of these chips that are only sold in China thanks to JGINYUE, a Chinese system maker1.
The Ryzen 7 8700F is basically a slower version of the Ryzen 7 8700G that doesn’t have the RDNA 3 graphics engine built in1. The Ryzen 7 8700F has base and boost clocks that are only 100 MHz and 50 MHz slower, respectively1. This means that the two chips should work about the same1.
The Ryzen 5 8400F is a Zen 4 processor with six cores and 12 threads, just like the Ryzen 5 7500F1. But the clock speeds are all over the place1. The base clock of the Ryzen 5 8400F is 500 MHz faster than that of the Ryzen 5 7500F, but the boost clock of the 7500F is 250 MHz faster1. More importantly, the Ryzen 5 7500F has twice as much L3 cache as the Ryzen 5 8400F. This gives the 7500F an advantage in many computer tests1.
The Ryzen 7 8700F and Ryzen 5 8400F are about the same in terms of speed as the Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen 5 7500F2. The Ryzen 7 8700F is about 2% slower at its fastest, and the only time you can tell the difference is in tests with multiple threads2. When testing only one thread, the Ryzen 5 8400F keeps up with the Ryzen 5 7500F. However, when testing multiple threads, it is 11% slower2.
In CPU-Z1, the Ryzen 7 8700F and 8700G both managed to do about the same in single-threaded tasks. In multithreaded performance1, however, the second one was almost 2% faster1. In Cinebench R23, the Ryzen 7 8700G did 2% better than the Ryzen 7 8700F in both single-core and multi-core performance1.
The Ryzen 5 7500F always did better than the Ryzen 5 8400F in all of the tests1. It was 2% faster in CPU-Z for single-threaded tasks and 9% faster for multi-threaded tasks1. Along with that, the Ryzen 5 7500F was 7% faster than the Ryzen 5 8400F in Cinebench R231 for both single-core and multi-core tasks.
AMD has shown off the Ryzen 7 8700F and Ryzen 5 8400F, but the company hasn’t said how much the Zen 4 processors will cost1. But because of how well they work, they should cost a little less than the Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen 5 8500G. This makes them a good deal for people who want to switch to the new AM5 platforms2.
